In June 2012, Mr. Anthony McMenim (New Zealand), have been visited Cambodia, the Angkor temple, and met me as his tour guide. Mr. Anthony is a friendly man and so nice person and we had laugh during the tour that he had some joke stories. Not only the friendly and nice person, he is also good kind person with his generous supporting the poor people of Cambodia in Siem Reap-Angkor by donated 5 wells for them to get the clean water to drink.
On his return, Mr. Anthony have contributed the funds to support the Clean Water & Education Project (CWEP), in order to help those families in needs the clean water to drink. The five wells are built completely on August benefited by 5 families in 3 villages in the same commune of Lvea, of Puok district in Siem Reap province. Each well was built on the own property of a family but share the water with the familes around. The beneficiaries are very happy with the donation of the new wells and they have clean water to drink now and can be use this water to sustainable their livelihood by planting some crops nearby the well in the both seasons.
Previously, these families and others in the communities they drink the muddy water from the well dig in the depth of 2m deep because there is always dries up at those regions. In the rainy season which is the heavy rain and flooding occurs during August to October, everywhere is flooding causes the houses are in the flooding and the fields covers by the flooding even if the well they dig to use everyday.
What to do if all their wells dig are cover by flooding? There is only one way, they drink the rain water. But the rain stops at the end of October, there would be a problem again. Otherwise, they found another way to get the water to drink, is drinking the flooding water. The availability of flooding stays until the end of December that most of houses are survived from the flooding the flooding lower and lower. In January and February is the harvest season and the dry season is going to come. In March they start to dig or fix the dug wells again that destroyed by flooding to get the water to drink because the flooding gone while the dry season arrived. This is what we concern about their health by drinking the muddy or flooding water. But they are better now.
Thank you very much to Mr. Anthony that have generous to support the CWEP to survive those poor. On the behalf of the Director/Coordinator for CWEP and the teams (Funds Raisers) with the Cambodian people, we are very thanks from our heartfelt to your generous support.
