Agnieszka, Ala, Jurek and Maciek (Poland) - Samroang - Khan Por - Soutr Nikum - April 2024 - Wells No.517
In April of 2024, Agnieszka, Ala, Jurek and Maciek from Poland, travelled to Cambodia for visiting the magnificent temple of Angkor and met me (Mr. Chantrea CHHUON, a Cambodia local tour guide and a founder of Foundation for Water & Education Cambodia), as their tour guide taking them around the site of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
They have learnt a lot about Cambodia history, cultures, civilizations, arts and architectures and the real life of Cambodian people in Siem Reap-Angkor, Cambodia. On their return home, they were interested in the work I am doing helping poor people surrounds of Siem Reap with providing clean water wells for them to get clean hygiene, clean drinking, cooking, bathing and irrigating to additional crops in the dry season. They have contributed funds to build a water wells for this family. The construction of water well is installed on a property land of this family located in a rural village of Siem Reap province about 45km away from provincial town.
The water wells is installed on the own property of a family and they share water with other families around. This family is classified of poor level 1. The poverty lines are an often used tool to characterize if people are poor or not. Base on a number of different poverty lines, the government uses a classification of four general groups of rural poor in Cambodia such as:
-
Level 1 (Extreme Poor): Normally not farmers and do not have enough to eat, almost all income spent on food take few voluntary risks (under the food security level). Depend on income from labours or from others.
-
Level 2 (Hustling Poor): Some have a small plut of land, all have only limited room for non-food spending or investment in innovations, take very few calculated risks (this group lives between the food security and under the lower poverty line).
-
Level 3 (Dynamic Poor): Lack some basic needs, but have land and some money to invest in productive assets, less risk averse (live between the lower and the upper poverty line).
- Level 4: These are less risk-averse than level 2 and 3 household.
On behalf of FWEC, we are deeply thanks a lot and very much appreciated to your generosity support.
